Klaviyo Pricing: What It Actually Costs at Each List Size

Klaviyo pricing starts free for 250 active profiles, then $20/month at 500, $150 at 10,000, $720 at 50,000, and about $1,955 at 150,000 on the Profiles & Email plan. Those numbers are from Klaviyo's public pricing page as of October 25, 2026, and they cover email only.

If you are comparing platforms or staring at a surprise invoice, you came to the right place. Below you will get email vs SMS vs both, worked examples at six list sizes, the add-ons that inflate the total, and the moments the bill jumps so you can budget before you grow.

Email vs SMS vs both on Klaviyo: three billing paths

Email vs SMS vs both: how Klaviyo pricing is split

Klaviyo does not sell one bundled "marketing plan." You buy a Profiles & Email plan for emailable contacts, then you add Mobile Messaging if you want SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, or RCS.

That split is the first thing people miss when they ask "how much does Klaviyo cost?" The email slider answers only half of the question for most ecommerce brands.

Profiles & Email

Profiles & Email is billed on active profiles, with a monthly email send allowance that usually lands around 10 emails per active profile.

Feature depth does not change as you pay more. You pay more because the list is bigger.

The free tier covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails per month, plus $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage. Paid Profiles & Email starts at $20/month for up to 500 active profiles.

Mobile Messaging

Mobile Messaging is a separate monthly spend you choose up front, such as $15 or $25, then messages deduct dollar rates by channel, country, and (in the US and Canada) toll-free vs short code. Carrier fees are included in the rate Klaviyo shows.

As of July 13, 2026, new accounts and free Mobile Messaging plans use dollar-based per-message pricing instead of the old credit system (Klaviyo Help Center). Unused mobile spend does not roll over.

Running both

Most Shopify and WooCommerce brands that treat SMS as a real channel pay for both. Email covers the list, and Mobile Messaging covers the texts.

Add Reviews, Customer Hub, Marketing Analytics, or Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform (KDP) and the invoice grows again.

If SMS is central to your retention plan, pair this article with best SMS marketing platforms before you lock a stack.

Worked example: 500 profiles

At 500 active profiles you are on the first paid Profiles & Email tier at $20/month. That is the "starter store" number people quote, and it is real for a tiny list.

Add light US toll-free SMS and the picture changes. Klaviyo's public calculator has shown about $15/month for 1,000 US toll-free SMS, so a lean email + SMS stack can sit near $35/month before tax.

Worked example: 2,500 profiles

At 2,500 active profiles, Profiles & Email is $60/month. You get enough send volume for a welcome series, abandoned cart, and a weekly campaign without living on overages.

This is often where brands feel Klaviyo is "cheap and powerful," because the feature set already includes flows, segments, and ecommerce integrations. The cost curve is still gentle here.

Worked example: 10,000 profiles

At 10,000 active profiles, Profiles & Email is $150/month. Cross 10,500 and the public slider has shown $175, so a few hundred dirty profiles can cost you another $25 every month.

If you send meaningful SMS at this size, budget Mobile Messaging on top. A mid-volume US SMS program at a few thousand texts per month can add tens to low hundreds of dollars depending on MMS mix and segments.

Worked example: 25,000 profiles

At 25,000 active profiles, Profiles & Email is $400/month. Annualized, that is $4,800 before SMS, Reviews, analytics, or anyone helping you run the account.

This is also where list hygiene starts paying for itself. Suppressing profiles you will never market to is not a vanity cleanup.

It is a direct bill control, and it pairs with email list cleaning.

Worked example: 50,000 profiles

At 50,000 active profiles, Profiles & Email is $720/month. The product you get is still the same core marketing platform.

You are paying for scale, not a richer feature set.

A realistic ecommerce total at this size often includes Mobile Messaging, sometimes Reviews, and sometimes Marketing Analytics or agency support. The $720 line item is the floor, not the ceiling.

Worked example: 150,000 profiles

At 150,000 active profiles, Profiles & Email is about $1,955/month on the public slider. Above the largest self-serve steps, Klaviyo moves you toward sales-led or manual billing.

If you are evaluating a migrate-or-stay decision at this size, read how to switch email marketing platforms before you rip anything out. Moving a warm list is its own project.

Email-only vs email + SMS snapshot

The comparison below shows how the same list sizes look when you add a simple US toll-free SMS layer. SMS figures use round public calculator points from October 2026 and will differ by country, MMS share, and segment count.

Active profilesEmail onlyEmail + ~1k US SMSEmail + ~10k US SMS
500$20~$35~$145
2,500$60~$75~$185
10,000$150~$165~$275
25,000$400~$415~$525
50,000$720~$735~$845
150,000$1,955~$1,970~$2,080

Treat the SMS columns as planning ranges, not quotes. Check your account rates under Billing before you forecast a peak month.

Hidden costs: SMS, CDP, and experts

The Profiles & Email number is the headline. The add-ons are where teams get surprised.

Hidden Klaviyo costs: Mobile Messaging, Advanced KDP, Reviews and Service, experts

Mobile Messaging (SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS)

Mobile Messaging is the most common "hidden" line because it is not hidden in the product, only in the blog posts that quote email alone. You pick a monthly dollar plan, messages burn that balance at channel and country rates, and leftover dollars expire at cycle end.

US toll-free SMS has recently shown about $15 for 1,000 messages and about $125 for 10,000 on Klaviyo's public calculator. MMS costs more.

Multi-segment SMS (long copy or emoji that drops you to 70 characters per segment) multiplies usage fast.

WhatsApp and RCS share the same Mobile Messaging spend model, with their own rates by destination. Meta does not currently support WhatsApp marketing to US numbers the way many international markets work, so US-heavy stores should not budget WhatsApp as a default channel inside Klaviyo.

Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform and Marketing Analytics

Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform (formerly CDP) is a separate product priced on total profiles, not just active ones. Public starting points have been in the $500/month range at large profile counts, with overage math if you exceed the tier.

Marketing Analytics is also separate, priced on active profiles, and has started around $100/month at lower tiers. You cannot run Marketing Analytics and Advanced KDP at the same time, per Klaviyo's billing docs.

Reviews, Customer Hub, Helpdesk, Customer Agent, Composer

Klaviyo Reviews bills on eligible monthly orders, not list size. Customer Hub and Social Marketing scale with active profiles.

Helpdesk bills on tickets, and Customer Agent bills on AI-resolved conversations. Composer uses AI usage capacity on its own plan.

None of these replace your Profiles & Email plan. Each one is an optional second (or third) invoice line.

Experts and agency cost

Klaviyo's Success & Support upgrades (Professional and Enterprise style tiers) sit on top of standard paid support. Many growing brands also hire an agency or contractor to build flows, clean the list, and keep deliverability healthy.

That people cost is not "Klaviyo pricing," but it is part of what Klaviyo actually costs to run well. If the platform fee is fine and the program still underperforms, the gap is usually strategy and build quality, which is the work we do on Klaviyo agency engagements.

When the bill jumps

Four triggers move most accounts into a higher monthly total. Knowing them early is cheaper than discovering them on renewal day.

Four triggers that jump a Klaviyo bill: profiles, email overages, SMS spikes, add-on stacking

1. Active profile growth (including people you never email)

An active profile is any profile that can be emailed through Klaviyo, consent status aside. Checkout emails that never opted into marketing still count until you suppress them (Klaviyo Help Center).

What counts vs what does not count as an active profile

If your active count exceeds your plan, Klaviyo moves you to a profile-compliant plan at the next billing cycle. Downgrades are not automatic unless you enable the right billing preference and your cleaned count actually qualifies.

2. Email send spikes

Campaign weeks like BFCM can burn through the included send allotment even when profile count is flat. Your Billing preference then chooses auto-upgrade, flexible overages, or stop sending.

Flexible overages are useful for a one-off peak. If you flex every month, upgrading the base plan is usually cheaper over a quarter.

3. SMS and MMS volume

A short promotional text is cheap until it becomes a long MMS to tens of thousands of people. Segment math and failed outbound messages both eat Mobile Messaging spend, while unused dollars still expire.

4. Add-on stacking after a "quick trial"

Trials and intro discounts make Reviews, Helpdesk, or Customer Hub easy to turn on. They are also easy to forget.

Audit add-ons quarterly the same way you audit unused SaaS seats.

Pro tip: Find your billing cycle date in Billing > Overview, clean inactive profiles a few days before it, and give the count up to 72 hours to refresh before you pick a lower tier.

Is Klaviyo worth the cost?

Klaviyo is worth it when ecommerce data, flows, and SMS sit at the center of retention, and the attributed revenue clearly covers the stack. It is a poor fit when you only need a simple newsletter and a small list.

Compared with lighter tools in our best email marketing platforms roundup, Klaviyo usually costs more as the list grows and includes deeper ecommerce automation for that money. You are buying profile-centric marketing, not a cheap blast tool.

If the bill hurts because the list is dirty, fix the list. If the bill hurts because flows are thin, fix the program.

Switching platforms to escape a build problem rarely solves the build problem.

FAQ

How much does Klaviyo cost per month?

Klaviyo Profiles & Email is free up to 250 active profiles, then starts at $20/month for 500 profiles. At common sizes as of October 25, 2026, public pricing shows about $60 at 2,500, $150 at 10,000, $400 at 25,000, $720 at 50,000, and about $1,955 at 150,000, with SMS and add-ons billed separately.

Is Klaviyo free?

Yes, within limits. The free plan includes up to 250 active profiles, 500 emails per month, $5 of mobile messages, and $5 of Composer usage.

Go over the free limits and sending pauses until you upgrade or shrink usage.

What is an active profile in Klaviyo?

An active profile is any profile that can receive email through Klaviyo, including many checkout and engagement profiles that never ticked a marketing box. Suppressed, hard-bounced, and deleted profiles do not count once processing finishes.

How much does Klaviyo SMS cost?

SMS sits on a Mobile Messaging plan with dollar-based rates by channel and country. Recent public calculator points for US toll-free SMS were about $15 for 1,000 messages and about $125 for 10,000, carrier fees included.

Your account rates in Billing are the source of truth.

Why did my Klaviyo bill go up without new subscribers?

Common causes are active profile growth from checkout captures, email or SMS overages, add-ons you forgot were on, or a tier step you crossed by a few hundred profiles. Check Billing > Overview and your upgrade preferences first.

Does Klaviyo charge for suppressed contacts?

No. Once suppression is processed, those profiles leave the Profiles & Email billable count.

Give the count time to refresh before you downgrade, and remember that unsuppressing can create a waiting period before you can suppress again.

Can I get an annual discount on Klaviyo?

Self-serve Profiles & Email is billed monthly. Large accounts sometimes negotiate contract terms through sales, but do not assume an annual coupon on the public plans.

Ready to make Klaviyo earn its invoice?

You now have current Klaviyo pricing by list size, a clear split between email and Mobile Messaging, and the add-ons that turn a $150 plan into a much larger monthly total. Our recommendation is simple: price the Profiles & Email tier at your real active profile count, add the SMS volume you will actually send, and suppress profiles you will not market to before the next billing cycle.
