Omnisend is the better pick for small stores that want email and SMS automation on a tight budget with a short learning curve. Klaviyo is the better pick once your list passes about 10,000 profiles and someone on your team will actually use its segmentation and data.
The proof is in the price sheets. On October 29, 2026, Omnisend's own calculator put 25,000 contacts on its Standard plan at $282 a month, while Klaviyo's calculator put 25,000 active profiles at $400 a month.
That $118 gap is real, and it is also only half the story. By the end of this guide you will know where each platform wins, where each one loses, and which one I would put on your store today based on its size.
I build and run Klaviyo accounts for ecommerce brands at Inbox Connect, so you should know my bias up front. I still tell small stores to skip Klaviyo when the fit is wrong, and this comparison says exactly when that is.
Here's the short version, by store size.
tl;dr
- Under 5,000 Contacts: Omnisend wins on price and simplicity, and Klaviyo loses because you pay for depth you will not use yet.
- 10,000 to 50,000 Profiles: Klaviyo wins for stores with someone running segments and flows, and Omnisend loses on data depth once you outgrow its pre-built playbooks.
- US SMS on a Small Budget: Omnisend wins on per-message cost, and Klaviyo loses by a modest margin at low volume.
- Support: Omnisend wins with 24/7 live chat on every plan, and Klaviyo loses with weekday-only chat on its standard tier.
- Prices: Every number below is a monthly USD list price from each vendor's official pricing calculator, checked October 29, 2026.

Klaviyo vs Omnisend at a glance
Klaviyo and Omnisend both sell email, SMS, signup forms, and automated flows to ecommerce stores. The difference is how far each one lets you go with customer data before you hit a wall.
Klaviyo is a customer data platform with a very good email builder on top. Omnisend is an email and SMS tool with very good pre-built ecommerce workflows, priced for stores that want results without a lot of setup.
| Category | Klaviyo | Omnisend | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free plan | 250 active profiles, 500 email sends a month | 250 contacts, 500 emails a month | Tie |
| Paid entry price | $20 a month for 500 profiles | $16 a month for 500 contacts (Standard) | Omnisend |
| Email sends included | 10x your profile count | 12x your list on Standard, unlimited on Pro (fair use) | Omnisend |
| Segmentation and data | Real-time segments, predictive analytics, 350+ integrations | Pre-built behavior segments, AI segment builder | Klaviyo |
| SMS | Separate Mobile Messaging plan, dollar rates since July 2026 | Prepaid SMS credits, US rate from $0.009 down to $0.007 | Omnisend |
| Support on base plans | 24/7 email, live chat on weekdays | 24/7 live chat and email on every plan | Omnisend |
| Deliverability setup | Branded sending domain, SPF and DKIM via its DNS records, optional DMARC record | Sender domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records | Tie |
| Ecommerce platforms | Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento 2, Wix, and more | Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, and more | Klaviyo |

Omnisend wins more rows, and that matters if you are a small team. Klaviyo wins the rows that decide what your program looks like in two years, which is why bigger stores keep landing there.
Pricing at 5 list sizes
Omnisend is cheaper at every list size I checked on its Standard plan. Once you compare Omnisend Pro (the plan with unlimited sends and the full AI toolset), the gap mostly disappears from 10,000 contacts up.
Here is what each official calculator showed on October 29, 2026, for email only. SMS is extra on both platforms and gets its own section below.
| List size | Klaviyo (Profiles & Email) | Omnisend Standard | Omnisend Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $20 | $16 | $59 |
| 2,500 | $60 | $44 | $59 |
| 10,000 | $150 | $132 | $150 |
| 25,000 | $400 | $282 | $400 |
| 50,000 | $720 | $413 | $715 |
A few billing rules change how these numbers land on your real invoice.
- Klaviyo Bills Active Profiles: Klaviyo defines an active profile as any contact in your account that can receive marketing, so suppressing dead profiles lowers your bill.
- Omnisend Bills Some Non-Subscribers: Omnisend says you are billed for subscribers and non-subscribers who received automated messages (think abandoned cart or order confirmation), while unsubscribed contacts are not billed.
- Omnisend Pro Starts at 2,500 Contacts: The Pro plan is priced at a 2,500-contact floor, which is why it costs $59 at both 500 and 2,500 contacts.
- Omnisend Has an Upfront Discount: Omnisend's page offers 30% off if you pay 3 months upfront, after which you are billed monthly at the list price shown above.
For the full Klaviyo price ladder past 50,000 profiles, see my Klaviyo pricing breakdown.
Weak vs strong ways to compare the price
Weak: You open both pricing pages, enter your current list size, and pick the lower number. That works until your list doubles, or until you realize the cheaper plan caps your sends below what a Black Friday month needs.
Strong: You price both tools at today's list size and at the size you expect in 12 months. Then you check send limits, count how many non-subscribed customers get automated emails, and add a realistic SMS budget before you compare totals.
Pro tip: When I price a platform for a store, I run the numbers at 2x the current list. If the cheaper option only stays cheaper on the Standard plan, I check whether that store will need Pro features within a year.
Which one is better for SMS?
Omnisend is cheaper for US SMS at small and mid volume, based on each vendor's public calculator data. Klaviyo is the better SMS tool when you want texts and emails triggered from the same deep customer profile.
Omnisend's pricing page lists US SMS at $0.009 per message for the smallest prepaid tiers, dropping to $0.0085, then $0.008, then $0.007 for spend above $10,000. At those rates, 1,000 US texts cost about $9 (inside its smallest $10 credit plan), and 10,000 US texts at $0.0085 come to about $85.
Klaviyo switched Mobile Messaging from credits to dollar-based, per-message rates on July 13, 2026 (Klaviyo Help Center). Its calculator showed a $15 plan for 1,000 US toll-free SMS and a $125 plan for 10,000, with carrier fees included.
So at 10,000 texts a month, Omnisend saves you roughly $40 on the per-text math ($85 against $125). Omnisend sells credits in set plan steps, so you may round up to its $90 plan (about 10,588 texts), which still saves $35.
That is worth having, but it is not a reason to move your entire program by itself.
Here is something you should know about both bills. Each SMS segment counts as a message, so a 2-segment text costs double, and MMS (picture messages) costs about three times as much as plain SMS on both platforms.
Pro tip: Before you compare SMS rates, trim your top three flows to one segment each. I usually find a cheaper SMS bill by cutting characters than by switching vendors.
If SMS is the main event and email is an afterthought, compare SMS specialists in my best SMS marketing platforms guide. And if you are weighing Klaviyo against an enterprise SMS vendor instead, read Klaviyo vs Attentive.
Shopify fit
Both apps are a strong fit for Shopify, and the public ratings are a dead heat. On November 2, 2026, the Shopify App Store showed Klaviyo at 4.7 stars from 3,427 reviews and Omnisend at 4.7 stars from 3,199 reviews.
So the tie-breaker is not the star rating. It is how much Shopify data you plan to use.
Klaviyo syncs Shopify order, catalog, and customer data in real time, according to its integration sync reference. That data feeds predictive fields like expected date of next order and customer lifetime value, which open up flows Omnisend cannot match one for one.
There is a catch. Klaviyo's predicted lifetime value only appears once at least 500 customers have placed orders and you have 180 days of order history (Klaviyo Help Center).
Omnisend connects through the Shopify App Store as well and syncs contacts, orders, and products. Its pre-built workflows (welcome, cart abandonment, post-purchase, re-engagement) are ready faster than most Klaviyo builds I see from scratch.
Is your store on WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Wix? Both platforms connect natively.
There is one Wix gap to check, though. Omnisend's Wix supported features page says order history does not sync from Wix, so stores with real order volume should test that before they commit.
Support: who picks up when a flow breaks?
Omnisend wins on support for small and mid-size stores. Its pricing page promises 24/7 live chat and email support on every plan, including free, plus a free account expert once you spend $400 or more a month.
Klaviyo's standard support, included in paid plans, gives you 24/7 email support with 4 to 48 hour response times and live chat on weekdays only. Free accounts get email support for the first 60 days.
You can buy more from Klaviyo. Its Professional support package starts at $500 a month and its Enterprise package starts at $1,800 a month, per the pricing page.
(That is a lot of money to make sure someone answers on a Saturday.)
Pro tip: Whichever platform you choose, keep a written list of every live flow, its trigger, and its filters. When something breaks, support can only help as fast as you can describe what was supposed to happen.
Deliverability: who helps you reach the inbox?
Deliverability is a tie on setup, because both vendors give you the same core tools to authenticate your own domain. I am not quoting inbox placement percentages here, since those depend far more on your list and your sending habits than on the platform.
Klaviyo lets you connect a branded sending domain, and the DNS records it generates take care of SPF and DKIM. If your domain has no DMARC record, Klaviyo can add a starter p=none record during that setup.
Omnisend's SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup guide gives you all three records to add at your DNS provider. It advises starting DMARC at p=none with relaxed alignment to meet Gmail and Yahoo sender rules.
If those acronyms read like alphabet soup, my guide to email authentication with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC walks through each record in plain English.
Dedicated IPs only matter at serious volume, and neither vendor ties one to a plan tier. Klaviyo recommends a dedicated IP once you consistently send over 1,000,000 emails a month (qualifying accounts only), while Omnisend suggests one at 300,000+ emails a week through a request to its support team.
Pro tip: Set up your own sending domain before your first campaign on either platform, then warm it on your most engaged profiles. My deliverability checklist covers the rest of what keeps you out of spam.
Klaviyo is overkill if...
Klaviyo is overkill if you will not use the depth you are paying for. I would rather tell you that now than sell you a platform you outgrow in the wrong direction.
The following list contains the signs that Klaviyo is too much platform for your store right now:
- You Have Fewer Than 500 Paying Customers: Predicted lifetime value will not switch on until 500 customers have ordered, so a big part of the reason to choose Klaviyo sits idle.
- Nobody Owns Email: If the founder sends one campaign a month between other jobs, Omnisend's pre-built workflows will beat a half-built Klaviyo account.
- You Only Need the Core Four Flows: Welcome, cart abandonment, post-purchase, and win-back cover most of the revenue at small stores, and both tools handle them well.
- Your Budget Is Fixed Below $100 a Month: At 2,500 contacts, Omnisend Standard is $44 against Klaviyo's $60, and that difference funds your first SMS test.
- You Want Live Chat Support on a Weekend: Omnisend includes it, while Klaviyo charges for extended chat hours.
Now flip it around. If you have a growing list, repeat buyers, and someone (in-house or a partner like our Klaviyo agency team) who will build segments and test flows every month, Klaviyo stops being overkill and starts paying for itself.
Winner by store size
This is the verdict, with a stated loser for every row. "It depends" is not a recommendation, so I am not giving you one.
| Store profile | Winner | Loser | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 5,000 contacts, founder-run | Omnisend | Klaviyo | Lower price, ready workflows, 24/7 chat |
| 5,000 to 10,000 contacts, first marketing hire | Omnisend | Klaviyo | Pro features at equal or lower cost, easier ramp |
| 10,000 to 50,000 profiles, repeat buyers | Klaviyo | Omnisend | Segmentation, predictive data, integrations |
| 50,000+ profiles, lifecycle team or agency | Klaviyo | Omnisend | Data depth and ecosystem at near-equal Pro pricing |
| SMS-heavy, US-only, tight budget | Omnisend | Klaviyo | Lower per-message SMS rate |
| Multi-platform data stack (reviews, loyalty, subscriptions) | Klaviyo | Omnisend | 350+ integrations on one profile |
When Omnisend loses
Omnisend loses once your growth depends on finding small, profitable segments inside a big list. You can do segmentation in Omnisend, but you will hit the ceiling sooner when you want predictive timing, deep custom events, or many connected tools on one profile.
It also loses on price at the top end. At 50,000 contacts, Omnisend Pro is $715 against Klaviyo's $720, so the savings argument is gone.
When Klaviyo loses
Klaviyo loses when nobody runs it. A Klaviyo account with five stale flows and no segments costs more than Omnisend and earns about the same.
It also loses on support for small teams, since weekday chat and 4 to 48 hour email replies can feel slow during a sale.
Already paying for Klaviyo and not sure anyone is running it? A free Email DDx audit shows you which flows have gone stale before you pay for another month.
Switching from one to the other
Moving between Klaviyo and Omnisend is very doable, and as of November 2026, Omnisend's pricing page says its migration team will move your flows, lists, templates, and whole setup for free in up to 5 days. Klaviyo's Getting started with Shopify guide warns you to disconnect your old ESP from Shopify first so customers do not get double opt-in emails.
For the full move, from consent mapping to sending warm-up, follow my guide on how to switch email marketing platforms safely.
Weak migration: You export contacts, import them, turn on the new welcome flow, and switch off the old tool on the same afternoon. Consent fields get mixed up, SMS subscribers lose their opt-in record, and your best flows go dark for a week.
Strong migration: You map consent for email and SMS separately, rebuild or import your top revenue flows, and warm up sending on engaged profiles first. Then you run both tools in parallel for a short window, with only one of them sending, before you cancel the old plan.
Pro tip: Export 12 months of flow revenue by flow before you leave either platform. You will want that baseline to prove the new setup is working.
FAQ
Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?
Yes, Omnisend Standard is cheaper than Klaviyo at every list size I checked on October 29, 2026. At 10,000 contacts it is $132 against Klaviyo's $150, but Omnisend Pro matches Klaviyo at $150.
Is Klaviyo better than Omnisend?
Klaviyo is better for stores with larger lists, repeat buyers, and someone to run segmentation. Omnisend is better for small stores that want fast setup, lower prices, and 24/7 support.
If neither one fits your store, my roundup of the best email marketing platforms compares more options.
Which is better for Shopify, Klaviyo or Omnisend?
Both are rated 4.7 stars on the Shopify App Store (Klaviyo, Omnisend) as of November 2, 2026. Klaviyo is better if you want to use deep Shopify data and predictive fields, and Omnisend is better if you want pre-built workflows live in an afternoon.
Does Omnisend have SMS?
Yes, Omnisend sells SMS as prepaid credits, with US rates listed from $0.009 down to $0.007 per message as spend grows. MMS is available for US and Canada recipients only.
Can I move from Omnisend to Klaviyo later?
Yes, and many stores do once their list grows. Plan the move around a slow sales month, map email and SMS consent separately, and rebuild your top revenue flows before you switch off Omnisend.
Is there a free plan on both?
Yes, both offer a free plan for up to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Klaviyo's free plan includes $5 of mobile messaging a month and email support for the first 60 days only.
Final Thoughts
You came here to pick between Klaviyo and Omnisend, and you now have pricing at five list sizes, SMS costs, Shopify fit, support, deliverability setup, and a stated loser for each store size. Omnisend wins for smaller, founder-run stores, and Klaviyo wins once your list and your team are big enough to use its data.
My recommendation is simple. Under about 10,000 contacts with nobody owning email, start on Omnisend Standard; past 10,000 profiles with repeat buyers, go Klaviyo and budget for someone to run it.
If you are leaning Klaviyo and want the account built and managed properly from day one, take a look at how our Klaviyo agency works. Bring your list size and current flows, and I will tell you straight whether Klaviyo is the right call.
